Inductor Increase Voltage

Inductors store their energy in the form of a magnetic field that is created when a voltage is applied across the terminals of an inductor. The growth of the current flowing through the inductor is not instant but is determined by the inductors own self induced or back emf value.

Inductor increase voltage. With a steady state dc current flowing through the inductor and therefore zero induced voltage across it the inductor acts as a short circuit equal to a piece of wire or at the very least a very low value resistance. The tide turns when the polarity of the voltage changes. In other words the opposition to the flow of current offered by an inductor is very different between ac and dc circuits.

As the charge increases the voltage rises and eventually the voltage of the capacitor equals the voltage of the source and current stops flowing. This energy comes from the electric current through the inductor. It rises as long as the voltage has the original polarity.

This appears as a voltage drop across the windings as long as the current increases. The inductor has slow response. The voltage can get lower but as long as it has the original polarity the current in the inductor gets higher.

The larger the inductance the smaller the rate of change of current necessary to achieve a particular voltage across the inductor. The voltage across the capacitor is given by. Where v 0 v s the final voltage across the capacitor.

When the current through an inductor is increased it drops a voltage opposing the direction of electron flow acting as a power load. The increase in the magnetic potential energy of the field is provided by a corresponding drop in the electric potential energy of the charges flowing through the windings. In other words the induced voltage polarity resulting from an increase in current will be oriented in such a way as to push against the direction of current to try to keep the current at its former magnitude.

Note the polarity of the voltage with regard to the direction of current. In this condition the inductor is said to be charging because there is an increasing amount of energy being stored in its magnetic field. When a voltage is applied over it the current starts to rise.
